Saimaa SUP Star 14.0 touring
A great board. Very directionally stable, turns agilely with paddle steering, goes well in the wind. The paddle is wonderfully light. The board is not tricky and is suitable for beginners.

Designed and developed in Finland, the Saimaa SUP Star 14.0 is one of the fastest, if not the fastest inflatable touring sup board on the market. Star
was born from the idea of making a super-fast and directionally stable sup-board, yet stable enough to admire the scenery. The result is a board with unique features that allow the experienced paddler to reach average speeds of up to 9 km/h and tops of over 10 km/h!
Designed and developed in Finland, the Saimaa SUP Star 14.0 (427x71x15 cm / 14" x 28" x 6", 350 L, 11,7 kg) is one of the fastest, if not the fastest inflatable touring SUP board on the market. The Star was born from the idea of making a sup-board that is ultra-fast and directionally stable, yet stable enough to admire the scenery. The result is a board with unique features that allow the experienced paddler to reach average speeds of up to 9 km/h and peaks of over 10 km/h. Directional stability has also been achieved, so that even with a slightly weaker paddling technique you can average 12 strokes per side before changing sides. Experienced paddlers can, of course, achieve higher pulls per side. However, despite its high performance, the Saimaa SUP Star is by no means too difficult for beginners who are interested in long distances, camping or high speed. The star is lit!

Despite the low price, the Saimaa SUP Star has not compromised on features, the whole paddock has been stripped down! The board includes all the carefully coordinated technical features that a flagship model can have. The core of the board is a top quality machine woven Machine Weave Fusion dropstitch that makes the board stiff and light. Machine Weave Fusion Dropstitch saves up to 2kg of weight and can withstand 25 psi of pressure with ease, so the board is already really stiff. But Star hasn't stopped there. stiffness has been further increased with 23 cm wide carbon fibre stiffeners running the length of the deck and base. The result is a super-stiff board that can handle heavier weights and waves with minimal flex, saving energy for going forward rather than living in the hull.
In addition to stiffness, directional stability is important for longer distance paddling and when seeking higher average speeds, because with each change of paddle side the board's momentum has time to fade and it takes energy/effort to regain momentum. Directional stability can be measured by the number of paddle strokes you can take per side before the board starts to veer off course. In the Star, directional stability is achieved by maximising the waterline by keeping the rocker (the curvature of the bottom of the board from stern to bow) non-existent, so that almost the entire long waterline (427 cm) can be utilised to produce directional stability. The Star has not been satisfied with a long waterline alone for directional stability, but the board also has a 34 cm long and 0.8 cm deep forefoot at the bow. With this combination, 12 strokes per side is easily possible.
With these features, the board is stiff, fast and directionally stable - so what more can you ask for? Of course, the extra speed to keep the other boards watching as the Star disappears into the horizon! The Star is equipped with unique aft breakers that minimise the energy required to break free from the water caused by the sternwheel and the board's draught. This reduces flow resistance by up to 10-15% compared to conventional boards. Product developed and tested in Finland, the breakers start to work at speeds of 6 km/h and above, providing better assistance the faster you paddle. An experienced paddler can reach an average speed of 9 km/h at high heart rates, with top speeds of over 10 km/h! Each board has hand-seated tailwheel breakers that won't slow you down even at lower speeds. The Star is fully competitive with narrow-bodied and tricky race boards, but with Star is stable and light enough for the inexperienced paddler to stay and admire the scenery without fear of falling off the board.
Is that all? Not at all, because the board's unrivalled features are crowned with with mechanically plastic-welded seams for maximum airtightness. The bow of the board is equipped with with a hard plastic sharp tip that breaks the wave with minimal resistance. For hikers, fair deck straps have been added to the bow and stern of the board, so even larger camping gear can be carried easily. The centre handle also has a handy paddle holder for breaks. For racers and tricksters, the board has a raised EVA padding (kicktail) at the rear of the board, which allows for the fastest and most spectacular pivot turns by shifting the weight back and lifting the board's bow up. Quick-release straps on the rear deck make it easy to remove when the kicktail is needed more. The recommended maximum load capacity of the board is 140kg.
The board package is also equipped with top of the range equipment: ultra-light (650g) full carbon fibre coil, for excellent grip on the water, three-stage pump, which fills the board quickly and easily, and tool-free 25cm deep touring fin, a runner, a backpack and a repair kit.
Many funnel users already have accessories from their own back, so The board is also available as a board + backpack + fin + repair kit at a lower price.
